This page is intended for psychotherapists who are interested in learning more about Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy as it was developed by Habib Davanloo, M.D. I have been in private practice for almost 30 years and my practice has always had a strong emphasis on dynamic psychotherapy. My first exposure to ISTDP was at an international conference on Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy in 2005 and the impact was profound and was the basis for my decision to pursue training in ISTDP.

I completed one year of ISTDP core training with Robert Neborsky, M.D. and Josette ten Have-de Labije, Ph.D. and then 3 years of core training with Patricia Coughlin, Ph.D. I then joined an advanced training group that Patricia organized for those interested in learning how to teach and supervise ISTDP and that group continued for 4 years. In addition to participating in her training groups, I had weekly Skype supervision with Patricia for 8 years. I attended an ISTDP immersion course given by Allan Abbass, M.D. in Halifax in 2012 and subsequently participated in his Skype supervision group for 6 months. In 2014 I began weekly Skype supervision with John Rathauser, Ph.D. who trained with Dr. Davanloo for 8 years and who is an excellent ISTDP therapist and teacher.

Jon Frederickson, M.S.W. invited me to co-teach his week-long ISTDP summer school in 2012. I have been teaching at UCLA, USC, and Stanford for several years. In 2014 I started a one-year ISTDP training group in Los Angeles which met monthly and combined didactic presentations, review of my videotapes, supervision of the students' videotapes, and group process. An article of mine entitled "ISTDP in the Private Practice of Psychiatry" was published in the November 2013 issue of Psychiatric Annals.

In 2015 I have teaching engagements in Australia, Poland, and Denmark and I am on the faculty of a week-long ISTDP summer school taking place in Seattle.
